Get to Know SVN Imbrie Series - R. Tom Smith

In this new series, we will be spotlighting one of our advisors, a listing or a recently closed transaction. Today, we will be spotlighting R. Tom Smith.

R. Tom is a Senior Advisor and the managing broker at SVN Imbrie Realty Vancouver, Washington office. He has seventeen years of commercial brokerage experience and over twenty years of property/asset management experience. He joined the SVN Imbrie Realty team in June 2017 and has been leading the charge in expanding our presence in Southwest Washington.

What inspired you to become a commercial real estate advisor?

I was working as a District Service Manager for VOA and was called on to help VORELCO corporate employees locate sites suitable for VW dealers in the northern CA and southern OR markets. I thought what they were doing was way cooler than fixing cars, listening to customers whine about their new cars and listing to service managers complain about their lot in life, so about 8 years later I got a broker’s license

What is your most memorable transaction?

The first commercial deal I did. Two mobile home parks sold to the same buyer. Why? Loved the commission nearly $200K after splits, I was hooked.

What excites you about commercial real estate?

I get excited and joy when I know I’m helping my clients in making wise investment decisions.

What kind of value can you bring to your clients?

I bring honesty, patience, market knowledge, creativity, and persistence.  I feel that persistence is something that hardly exists anymore.

What are your hobbies and/or personal interests outside of work? 

In my spare time, I enjoy attending Bible study, spending time with my wife, work on my yard which features a Koi pond, as well as tinker with my fleet of cars, and making money from my three retail properties.
